Waterloo Canal Day Scheduled June 24 at Historic Village

The Canal Society of New Jersey will bring historic Waterloo Village back to life with canal boat rides, live music, tours and demonstrations at the Waterloo Canal Day Festival on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 10am to 4pm.

Rain date is Sunday, June 25. Waterloo Village, an historic Morris Canal town, is located on Waterloo Road, Stanhope, NJ, just off I-80, Exit 25.

This year’s Waterloo Canal Day Festival will feature a wide range of activities for the whole family.  A special feature will be our new Canal Boat Exhibit that will include the recently discovered remains of a real Morris Canal boat. Many of the historic buildings will be open including Smith’s Store, blacksmith shop, a working water-powered gristmill, and the New Jersey Canal Museum. Canal Society volunteers who will be on hand to talk about Waterloo’s history and offer hands-on activities.

Spend the day in this unique historic setting!

Village grounds are open daily for passive recreation from dawn to dusk. Admission to the village is free, but there is a $5 parking fee. The Canal Society’s museum will be open most Saturdays, while tours of the Lenape village will be available every Sunday. The State Park Service will offer additional programs and activities on Saturdays throughout the season. For details, contact the park office at 973-347-1835.
