WCARTS Meeting and Lecture and Demonstration of Plein Air Watercolor

Thursday, May 9, 2019 -
1:00pm to 3:00pm

This Warren County Arts group meeting will feature a lecture and demonstration of plein air watercolor by Richard Polinski.

Richard Polinski is an amateur plein air watercolor painter and a professional cabinetmaker. He started painting three years ago so he is just a beginner. Richard lives in Milford, New Jersey and generally paints after work on the way home and while hiking on weekends, usually in southern NJ. He has posted online photos of his paintings from the start and made a commitment to post everything whether he thought it was any good or not. That helps to keep him honest with himself and is a reminder that learning is a process and part of the fun and satisfaction.

“My presentation will be on my experiences since I started painting and will include discussions of how I got started, decisions about tools and materials, the challenges I faced and still face and how I've found my way through or around them. I'll have examples of my work to look through as people choose as well as my painting kits which can be examined. My focus will be on what keeps me motivated in spite of the many difficulties I've encountered as someone who is not a natural-born artist and how one can still do satisfying work. Also those things that I've found are helpful to get beyond those trouble spots. Questions would be encouraged throughout the presentation.”

“I come not as an expert but a fellow-traveler who has only recently started his journey and whose experience may be helpful to others.”

Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome and encouraged. This event is free for members, $2 for non-members. Funding has been made possible, in part, by the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
